Therapeutic Indications:

Polycyctic ovary syndrome (PCO), Treatment of acne, Contraception

Mechanism of Action:

Specific antiandrogenic effect of cyproterone acetate is a competitive inhibition of release of 5 alfa dihydrotestosterone.

The trophic action of the drug on endometrium is due to antigonadotropic action of Ethinyl estradiol.

Method of Administration:

Orally one tablet daily for 21 days starting on the 1st day of the cycle, followed by 7 days tablet-free interval

Notes

Contraindications:

Pregnancy, lactation, thromboembolic disorders or a family history of it. Cardiovascular disorders (hypertension, coronary arthropathy), cerebrovascular disease, malignancies, hepatic disease, undiagnosed uterine hemorrhage.

Interactions:

Rifampine, barbiturates, certain anticonvulsants, cyclosporine

Pregnancy and Lactation:

It is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation

Before you start taking Cyproterone Acetate / Ethinylestradiol
* Your doctor will ask about you and your family’s medical problems and check your blood
pressure and exclude the likelihood of you being pregnant. You may also need other checks,
such as a breast examination, but only if these examinations are necessary for you or if you
have any special concerns.
* Cyproterone Acetate / Ethinylestradiol also works as an oral contraceptive. You and your
doctor will have to consider all the things that would normally apply to the safe use of oral
hormonal contraceptives.

Adverse Reactions:

Side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, headaches, mood changes, changes in libido, weight gain, skin pigmentation, poor tolerance of contact lenses, vaginal candidiasis, gall-bladder disease, gastro-intestinal irritation, fluid retention, tightness and tenderness of the breasts may occur.

Storage:

Store below 30 and protect from light and moisture.
