Hormonal contraceptive for systemic use
Mechanism of Action:
It prevents an egg being released from your ovaries so you can’t get pregnant. It also makes the fluid (mucus) in your cervix thicker which makes it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb.
Method of Administration:
- Take your pill at the same time every day.
- Follow the direction of the arrows on the strip. Take one pill each day, until you have finished all 28 pills.
- Swallow each pill whole, with water if necessary. Do not chew the pill.
Notes
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, blood clot disorder, severe liver impairment, and during pregnancy.
Interactions:
Phenobarbital, Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Tacrolimus, Rifampicin, Cyclosporine, Warfarin
Pregnancy and Lactation:
This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women.
This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may prescribe a safer alternative based on your clinical condition.
Warning and Precaution:
Abnormal vaginal bleeding
This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with an undiagnosed vaginal bleeding since it may worsen the patient’s condition. Appropriate diagnostic tests should be undertaken to determine the cause of the vaginal bleeding. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be needed in some cases based on the clinical condition.
Breast Cancer
This medicine may increase the risk of breast cancer in some patients. This risk is especially high in patients over 40 years of age and in patients with a family history of breast cancer. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.
Adverse Reactions:
Weight gain, Nausea, Headache and dizziness, Loss of libido, Breast pain and tenderness, altered menstrual cycle, Edema, Depressed mood, Increase in blood glucose level
Storage:
Store below 30 and protect from light and moisture.
