Therapeutic Indications:

  • Causing menstrual periods in women who have not yet reached menopause but are not having periods due to a lack of progesterone in the body.
  • Fertility treatment as part of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) for women unable to get pregnant due to a lack of natural progesterone in the body.
  • Prevent overgrowth in the lining of the uterus in postmenopausal women who are receiving estrogen hormone replacement therapy.
  • Pre-menstrual syndrome
  • Post-natal depression
  •  Amenorrhea

 

Mechanism of Action:

Progesterone is a female hormone important for ovulation and menstruation. Progesterone causes changes in the lining of uterus, making it easier for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus at the beginning of pregnancy. Progesterone then helps body maintain the pregnancy.

Method of Administration:

Disease Dose
For women undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) The recommended dose is 400 mg twice a day by vaginal insertion.
Start using Fertigest® 400 mg on the day of egg retrieval. The administration of Fertigest® should be continued for 38 days if pregnancy has been confirmed.
For the treatment of premenstrual syndrome and post-natal depression The recommended dose is 200 mg once a day or 400 mg twice a day by vaginal or rectal insertion.

Notes

Contraindications:

Allergy to progesterone, known or suspected tumor that is hormone sensitive, porphyria disorders, blood clot in the legs, lungs, eyes or elsewhere in the body, severe liver problems.

Interactions:

Carbamazepine, Rifampicin and phenytoin may decrease the effectiveness of progesterone. Using other vaginal product at the same time as Fertigest® is used vaginally is not recommended.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

PREGNANCY: The risks of congenital anomalies, including genital abnormalities in male or female infants, from exposure to exogenous progesterone during pregnancy have not been fully established.

LACTATION: This medicine should not be used during breast feeding except for Post-natal depression.

Warning and Precaution:

Pain in the calves or chest, a sudden shortness of breath or coughing blood indicating possible clots in the legs, heart or lungs, severe headache or vomiting, dizziness, faintness, or changes in vision or speech, weakness or numbness of an arm or leg indicating possible lots in the brain or eye, worsening of depression, liver problems such as jaundice, epilepsy, migraine, asthma, cardiac or renal dysfunction, diabetes.

Adverse Reactions:

Drowsiness, stomach discomfort or pain, breast pain

Store below 30 and protect from light and moisture.
